A few reasons why this requiem project is important. . . .

  • Every 9 seconds a women is beaten in the United States.
  • Between 3 and 4 million women are battered each year.
  • 85-95% of all domestic violence victims are female.
  • Women age 20 - 34 endure the highest rates of domestic violence.
  • Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women.

These statistics come from the American Institute on Domestic Violence. Their site has a great store of information on the impact of domestic violence on businesses.

Call for poems

We are looking for poems, written by survivors of domestic violence from the viewpoint of finding joy, triumph, freedom, etc., after leaving the situation. These poems would be read by a narrator at key points between musical passages during the performances of the requiem. We need a total of about four poems. If you have a poem you would like to submit, please email it to forbatteredsouls (at) swbell (dot) net. Don't forget to include contact information!
